Springer Spaniels are extremely smart and learn very quickly. The Springer Spaniel is an ideal dog for country or city life. Springers are people pleasers. They love to be around people, and they are energetic, loving companions. They are energetic and playful animals, and many owners find humor in their play. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are great with children and are an excellent pick for families. Of course as with any dog breed, children should always be supervised to make sure they are not antagonizing the dog.

Springer Spaniels as a breed of dog are very intelligent and learn things fast. Being highly enthusiastic, eager to please, loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented makes the Springer an ideal companion for both city and country life. Playful and energetic, the Springer Spaniel can bring its owner many hours of amusement. With proper training the can excel in agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are the perfect choice for families because they are so wonderful with children. Children should be supervised with all breeds of dogs.

Owners will be satisfied with a Springer because they are so friendly and eager to please. Their temperament has been compared to the popular Golden Retriever. They are happy to go home and lie around the house if that is what their families are doing at the time. Human contact helps them to adjust and adapt to different levels of activity. As a breeder we have raised many puppies and we can personally definitely testify to their high levels of affection!

As a breed, the English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized sporting dog, and can weigh anywhere from 35-55 pounds at adulthood. They are typically healthy dogs that live happy lives that average about 10-14 years on average. Springers which are field bred have shorter hair and are generally more active than the show type Springers. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two "lifestyles." The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.

English Springer Spaniels generally have two different variations of colored fur which are either black and white or liver and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. They are also known for having a white blaze on their faces usually down the middle.

English Springer Spaniels were bred to be natural hunters with a lot of energy, so you can expect your Springer to enjoy running around, sniffing out "game,"and retrieving things for you. Springers have long been used as waterfowl and small game hunting dogs so they enjoy outdoor activities and being around water. Being a very old breed they have been popular dogs for a long, long time. These canines are often regarded as one of the oldest and best established gun dog and hunting breeds.

I hope this explains why springers are a wonderful fit for a variety of situations, lifestyles and families. We certainly believe and have experienced how these loving animals can find a place in anyone's heart and home.
