Here you will find ways to prevent your dog's chewing from becoming destructive. Keep in mind these tips will only work if you do them on a consistent basis.

Remember you're the person in charge so it is up to you to dog-proof your home. You need to realize that even if your dog doesn't destroy your belongings with their chewing it makes no sense to give them opportunities to chew on anything other than their own toys.

Many dogs really enjoy chewing on such things as cell phones, remote controls, shoes and books so take extra care to place these items where your pooch can't get at them. You probably already know that you can't leave food lying around because dogs love to get at anything tasty. This is their nature.

A few things that dogs really love to get their mouth around are cell phones, books, remote controls, shoes and garbage so take extra care to place these objects where your dog's mouth can't reach. In addition to the items listed above dogs love to get a hold of food so certainly don't leave any kind of food lying within your dogs reach. Remember some dogs are very agile and when it comes to getting their mouth around food they can reach very high.

Another thing is don't ever give your dog any of your items to chew on such as old socks, old shirts or towels. If you allow them to chew on your old stuff, then how in the world will they know that they shouldn't chew on their items.

Another thing is that you must spend lots of time supervising your dog. This means that you can't just leave your dog in her pen or outside in the yard all day. You have to interact with them and teach them that chewing isn't going to be tolerated. They can't learn this if you don't teach them.

Most dogs need to chew so you need to make sure your dog has lots of toys or raw-hide bones to chew on thus you can't expect your dog not to chew on your belongings if they don't have their own belongings. It is recommended that you go on a big shopping trip and buy your dog different types of toys. This will allow them different kinds of things to chew, hopefully, it will keep them from destroying your belongings.

Spend lots of time with your dog and let it get plenty of exercise. Nobody likes to be penned up all day so don't expect your dog to enjoy being in their crate or pen all day either. This will make them bored and they won't have much fun, that's for sure. Another thing is your dog will figure out what you expect of them quicker by you spending lots of time with them.

In the beginning when you get the dog you must remember that your dog will at times try to chew on your possessions, but with toys of their own, you putting up your possessions so they can't reach any of them and you spending plenty of time with your dog surely you will be able to stop destructive chewing.
