There are several different things that dogs need to learn in any dog behavior training. In addition to house training, there is bite and bark control, leash training, crate training, and other issues such as excessive or excitement urination, along with teaching them to stop whining. Here are some tips and tricks to help you improve your dog behavior training technique. The first priority when a new puppy is introduced into the home is house breaking the puppy. This is not something that can be rushed, because the more the issue is pushed, the less results you are likely to see. Designate a certain area for papers, gradually reducing that area as you increase the frequency of trips outside and watch for signs from the puppy. Bladder control is learned over time, and you must be patient. Leash training a puppy is very important when it comes to walking and exercising the puppy. Leash training will take time and practice, but you need to quickly assert that you are the one in control. Anytime the puppy behaves less than the way you want, gently tug at the leash and say a command of your choice. This will help with socialization in the long run. For crate training, it is important that the puppy love the area, and not feel it to be a punishment. The fact is that many puppies need to be crate trained until they can be trusted out in the open when you are not home to monitor their activities. Make sure to have the area full of his or her toys, food, and water. This area should be a place the puppy can treat as an escape from the human family, rather than a prison. One of the hardest things to deal with is the urination when a dog gets excited. This is something that nearly every puppy does, and it can be bothersome to the owner. Stop the dog from getting so excited by exposing him or her to the things that excite him or her often enough to prevent them from being a stimuli. If you get angry, you'll turn the urination into submissive urination because the dog does not understand why or how he or she has upset you and is trying to please you. Either urination will be a problem. The sooner you can get the dog's whining under control the better for everyone. The dog probably whines because he or she does not want to be away from you, so before you go away for long periods of time be sure to give puppy time to adjust and reward small periods of alone, quiet time before pushing the long ones. Crate training may sound awful, because you are confining the dog to such a small space. What you should do is make this place a special place for the puppy, so he or she will want to spend time there. Fill the area with food, water, toys, and activities, and reward the puppy for spending time there quietly. Do not use the crate as a form of punishment, or the dog will not see it as his or her spot. Having a puppy or any dog that needs behavior training can be very stressful and requires a great deal of commitment and attention. Remember to stay calm and enjoy the puppy rather than to let it bother you. You'll have a lifelong companion that way. About the Author: Joe R.
